Pageant Night Festivities

Only 13 more sleeps until the inaugural evening Christmas Pageant and ‘Flinders Logistics Christmas in the Park”, and we’re getting very excited!

Port Pirie is going to enjoy a great pageant with 42 floats entered and 51 stalls booked in for ‘Flinders Logistics Christmas in the Park’ event which will be held in Memorial Park from 5.30pm until10pm. Pageant night is shaping up to be a great festive event for you to enjoy and share with your children, family and friends. A special thank you to Pageant Sponsors: Port Pirie Regional Council, Nyrstar, The Recorder and Magic FM radio and to the new Port Pirie Christmas Pageant Inc. Committee for their tireless work in making this all possible. They are Secretary Lauren Boulton, Treasurer Jacy Kemp, Robert Tolson, Jo Ellard, Leo Taylor, Rachael Lunsmann, Bek Doyle, Ebony Roberts and Tammy Hunter.

We are also delighted to have a new sponsor come forward, Flinders Logistics who are sponsoring the new event Christmas in the Park. General Manager of Flinders Logistics Mr Andrew Pellizzari commented “Our workforce are all local people. Since Flinders Logistics arrived in Port Pirie in 2014 we’ve been looking for a community event that would enable us to give back to the community. Christmas in the Park is enabling us to do just that”.

Saturday December 3rd is the big night. Memorial Park will be bustling from 5.30pm with market stalls, children’s rides, the smell of popcorn and hot food as Christmas music is played from the Rotunda. Children can have their face painted and jump on the bouncy castles, ride the merry-go-round, chair-o-plane and enjoy the laughing clowns. Market stalls will be the perfect place to do some Christmas shopping offering: toys, candles, children’s clothes, jewellery, t-shirts, collectables, gift-ware, party supplies, craft, art, Christmas nibbles and gourmet condiments. Children can have their photo taken with Santa once he’s finished his Pageant parade duties and will be available at the Photo Booth tent from 7.45pm-10pm. Kathy Gould of Hip Photography will be taking the photos and you will find her at the entrance of Memorial Park from Gertrude Street. The Pageant floats will line-up as usual in Memorial Drive ready for the pageant to commence at 7pm. The pageant parade will turn left on Gertrude street past the Northern Festival Centre, turn right onto David Street, right onto Ellen Street and right onto Norman Street finishing at Memorial Drive at Christmas in the Park. Full details on the Pageant route and ‘Flinders Logistics Christmas in the Park’ event can be found on this Pageant website at: www.portpiriechristmaspageant.com/event

Having an evening pageant going into the cool of the night has allowed floats to be a bit more creative and we’re looking forward to the Port Pirie Gymnastics Academy ‘Winter Wonderland’ float entry with their Snow Prince and Princess surrounded by lots of snow fairies and elves entertaining the crowds with their tumbling skills! The Port Pirie Youth Theatre will be entertaining us with their ‘Hairspray The Musical’ float and the Kingston Road Early Learning Centre have entered ‘Santa’s Workshop’. The Christmas Bilby as well a Phea-bee and Pea-bee will all be making appearances in the pageant. The Float List will be available for download from this pageant website soon.

The musicians from the pageant will make their way to the beautiful rotunda and entertain you for the rest of the night. The Nurioopta Town Band will play from 8pm-8.30pm, The Music Excellence Girls from John Pirie Secondary School will perform from 8.45pm-9.15pm and Owen Lewis and Mary Bateman will entertain us with a violin/guitar performance from 9.30pm til 10pm. For the convenience of families we have organized a ‘Parent Tent’ where Mums can breastfeed in privacy and baby-change facilities will also be available.

There will be 6 portable toilets located at Memorial Park and the Northern Festival Centre toilets will also be open.

Memorial Drive will be closed to traffic from 4pm – 8.30pm and Pageant route roads will be closed from 6pm and open at the end of the parade procession.

This is a family friendly event and the area is a dry-zone.

For the elderly and the sick and those who can’t make the pageant we’ll be organizing a special DVD and YouTube video of the festivities. The Pageant DVD will be made available to the Port Pirie Hospital and other organisations that look after the elderly.

We look forward to seeing you on the night and we wish you a very Merry Christmas.
